Learning Observed
My literacy group have been watching the development of our new adventure playground over the past month.  I saw their excitement and conversations as an authentic opportunity to support them with understanding how to use nouns, adjectives and verbs through poetry.

We visited the playground to observe the workers and machinery.  Rudi was encouraged to talk about what he could see and hear.  Photos were taken so that he would be able to refer to them during future writing workshops to support him with recalling the visit and brainstorming suitable vocabulary to use in his writing.  Rudi met with Mr McNeil and was given the opportunity to ask questions about the drawings for the playground.

Later when we were back in LH6, the features of a diamante poem were unpacked and Rudi contributed towards a list of verbs, adjectives and feelings that could use in the poem.

Evidence of learning
Rudi began his writing independently, choosing the words that he wanted to use.    He was shown how to use a thesaurus to find some alternative words (synonyms) and decide which would create the biggest impact in his poem.  Rudi is developing a good understand of the difference between a describing word (adjective) and action word (verb).  He is also demonstrating a reasonable understanding of what to do when adding the ‘ing’ suffix to verbs, e.g. play = playing.

Rudi published his poem on a Google doc, after he had revised and edited his draft.
